Screen Sharing Consent
Theo offers optional study sessions: you share your screen from your laptop so Theo can look at your study material with you while you talk. This document describes exactly what that involves. It is shown to you before your first session, and your acceptance is recorded with its date and this document's version.
What is captured, and when
- Sessions only ever start when you click "Start screen share" and choose what to share in your browser's picker. Theo can never open a session by itself.
- During a session, still frames of the shared screen are captured at meaningful moments — when you switch windows, when you stop scrolling, when you stay on one spot for a while, and when you send a chat message. This is not continuous video. No audio, no camera, and no keystrokes are captured.
- A visible indicator ("Theo is watching") is shown for the whole session, and your browser shows its own sharing indicator too.
What happens to the frames
- Each captured frame is sent, over an encrypted connection, to our AI model provider (Anthropic) to produce a short written observation of what is on screen — for example, which section of your document you are reading.
- The frame image is discarded immediately after it is read. It is never written to disk and never stored. What remains is the written observation only.
What we keep
- The written observations from each session (text).
- Session records: when a session started and ended, and how many frames were captured.
- Your chat messages with Theo during the session, as part of your ongoing conversation history.
- Materials you upload separately are kept as extracted text, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Your control
- End a session at any time with the End session button; closing the tab or laptop also ends it within about a minute.
- You can simply never start a session — every other part of Theo works without screen sharing.
- You may request deletion of your session observations and any other data at any time by replying to any Theo message or emailing jeongmo.kwon@learningtheo.com.
